Cutlass shaft bearings are a specific category of plain bearings, made of marine brass and an internal lining of nitrile rubber with vertical grooves. The shaft rotates onto that rubber, while water passes through the grooves. The water acts as a lubricant while it flushes out any possible debris. The most important elements of these bearings are the internal diameter of the bearing "A" (propeller shaft specifications), its outer diameter "B," and its length, "C."
