The Volvo Penta MD11 and MD17 is a compact diesel engine family, produced between 1975 and 1984. Its development was based on the earlier 88.90 mm bore MD2B and MD3B engines, keeping many of its internal components unchanged, such as the crankshaft journals, but installed engine cylinder liners.The powerplants were offered as a two-cylinder engine, and three-cylinder engine. It is a simple and straightforward engine, without electronics, featuring a gear timing; thus making it ideal for the marine industry.
